COVID-19: Weak Health Minister Tests

The Federal Health Ministry (FMoH) says it will be difficult to flatten the curve of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) if the virus tests are adequate.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, said so at the briefing of the Presidential Working Group on COVID-19 on Monday in Abuja.

Osagie said most of the country’s laboratories were operating below its capacity, adding that efforts were being made to ensure the source of at least one laboratory in the state.

“Our purpose is to control two million Nigerians in search of COVID-19, of which we have reached a quarter.

“However, plans have been made to establish and optimize laboratories in all states.

“For this to happen, collaboration with the structures of the state sector and the CTF sector is crucial.

“We urge all state agencies to backtrack on strengthening surveillance and establishing pattern collection sites in all LGA and even in all neighborhoods with LGA hotspots,” he said.

The minister called for greater vigilance in view of the government’s planned reopening of advertising flights at Lagos and Abuja airports.

He said it had become a necessity to review COVID-19 protocols to ensure early detection, isolation and remedy of any positive case.

“While these protocols can cause inconvenience, such as airport delays, it’s worth paying for our protection and health, especially for travelers.

“While we try COVID-19, we try to keep our eyes on other diseases that contribute to mortality, especially in women and children.

“Malaria is an example of why we continue to have the regimen of facilities at our number one health care facilities.

“This morning we published the report of the 2018 Malaria Therapeutic Efficacy Studies for 3 artemisinin-based combination treatments (ACT) tested in Enugu, Kano and Plateau. “

He said the studies were conducted in normal periods to detect resistance to early malaria parasite medications for effective treatment.

The effects of the study show that the 3 ACT are effective against direct malaria, there have been reports of resistance of malaria parasites to artemisinin in some Asian countries.

“There has been no resistance in studies conducted in Nigeria.

“It is sensible to monitor all cases of fever and make sure that it is malaria, and treat the cases shown with artemisinin combination therapies,” he said.

According to the Minister, there has been a significant minimization in COVID-19 testing due to relief in the collection of patterns in many states for reasons that are transparent in all cases.

“Lagos, for example, tested more than 35,000 in July and just under 20,000 in August, while Kano increased from 23,000 in July to just under 4,000 in August.

“These are just examples of how much you want to make paintings and many other demanding situations to face.

“We will commission a working group of the Ministerial Expert Advisory Committee to initiate processes to review this development, to provide new wisdom that can advise the reaction, or possibly have an effect on government decision-making.

“With a total of 1013 deaths recorded to date, the fatality rate has also been slightly reduced to 1. 88%, the slow decline is perhaps an indication of an improvement in reaction and remedy methods to involve COVID-19 and also of a non-unusual global situation. Trend.

“As long as we record deaths from this disease, there is no room for complacency,” he said.
