In reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Drexel West Philly Promise Neighborhood team created knowledge panels to help identify the spaces in Philadelphia most threatened by COVID-19 and its long-term impacts. We hope that such knowledge and maps can be useful in resource allocation and recovery efforts.
The first dashboard monitors overall vulnerabilities based on CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index. This index presents 15 variables from the U. S. Census. The U. S. Department of Homeland Security at the point of dominance for local officials can identify communities that may wish to prepare for or recover from a disaster. We have adapted this index to be applicable to the Philadelphia context.
The current dashboard presents information on other COVID-related vulnerabilities applicable to Philadelphia communities, adding physical conditions, resources, and more detailed housing information.
The third dashboard, the Essential Workers Dashboard, presents knowledge about personnel in industries, adding knowledge about staff race and ethnicity, salaries, and place of residence.
Right now, those dashboards are focused on pre-COVID vulnerabilities, but stay tuned for more knowledge about Philadelphia, we’re running dashboard signals demonstrating existing pandemic vulnerabilities. , and mortality, make a stop on the Philadelphia Department of Public Health’s COVID website.
This dashboard was funded through a Drexel University grant to principal investigators Amy Carroll-Scott and Félice Lê-Scherban.
