Covid 19 update: India has recorded 166 new Covid cases, while the number of active cases of infection has dropped to 859, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.
According to data updated at 8 a. m. , two new deaths, one in Haryana and one in Maharashtra, were recorded in 24 hours.
The number of cases had fallen to double digits as of Dec. 5, 2023, but cases had begun to rise following the emergence of a new variant and cold weather conditions.
After December 5, 841 new cases were reported as of December 31, 2023, representing 0. 2% of the peak of cases reported in May 2021, according to official sources.
India has experienced three waves of COVID-19 in the past, with the peak of daily new cases and deaths reported in the Delta wave in April-June 2021.
At its peak, 4,14,188 new cases and 3,915 deaths were reported on May 7, 2021.
Since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, more than 4. 5 million people have been infected and more than 5. 3 million deaths have been recorded.
