The Ministry of Health has suggested the public wear a mask in crowded places, even if you are sick, as Singapore is experiencing a surge in Covid-19 infections lately.

In a press release on Dec. 15, the ministry also urged the public to exercise personal and social responsibilty by avoiding contact with others if they’re sick.

Exercise personal and social responsibility

People who feel unwell and have symptoms of acute respiratory infections (ARI) are asked to contact others and stay home until the symptoms subside.

If they want to get in touch with other people when they’re not feeling well, they show their social duty by wearing a mask, minimizing social interactions, and avoiding crowded places.

“The Ministry of Health also strongly recommends the public to wear a mask in crowded places even if they are sick, especially indoors, or when visiting or interacting with vulnerable people,” the ministry said.

Vaccination remains the first line of defense against Covid-19

The Ministry of Health has suggested the public to keep their vaccinations up to date as it remains the main defence against Covid-19.

The ministry added that hospitalisation rates amongst those who kept up to date with their Covid-19 vaccination are considerably lower compared with those who have not.

People 60 and older, medical people, and citizens in senior care facilities are strongly encouraged to get up-to-date vaccinations if it’s been more than a year since their last dose.

All other people aged six months and older are also advised to receive an additional dose, especially for gym workers and family members or caregivers of other medically vulnerable individuals.

The ministry said:

“Our society has withstood several waves of infection and emerged more powerful and more resilient, and we can also cope with this wave with everyone’s cooperation. We urge everyone to play their part in protecting themselves and their families, especially the elderly and the medically vulnerable. .

Daily Update

Starting December 19, the Ministry of Health’s online page will be updated daily to reflect the most recent estimates of the number of Covid-19 cases in this era of emerging cases.

The ministry also said it is working with public hospitals to make sure Singapore’s hospital capacity is in a position to cope with a surge in hospitalization cases.

This weekend, the Ministry of Health will also open the second Covid-19 Treatment Centre (CTF) at Singapore’s Exhibition Hall 10 to build the capacity of the CTF.
