As the coronavirus pandemic continues, restrictions appear constantly, and not just internationally. A decent number of restrictions have been imposed in states, to help dominate the number of spikes (in cases like Florida) and maintain the number of seriously fought infections to reduce infections (as in New York). Some states have imposed mandatory quarantine on arrival; in other destinations, negative COVID-19 evidence must be submitted to enter.
Whether you’re considering a short summer road trip, or looking to visit loved ones, we’ve rounded up every U.S. state with travel restrictions so you know how to prepare for crossing state borders. Of course, deciding whether to travel this summer is highly personal, and should take into account safety and other factors of personal risk, case count in your destination, and more. This guide is intended to answer just one of the many questions worth considering before hitting the road.

All visitors entering Alaska must complete a travel statement form and arrive with evidence of a negative COVID-19 check, pass a check upon arrival or quarantine for 14 days or the duration of the trip, depending on the shortest of the two.
For travelers who take a pre-arrival check, restrictions vary depending on when the check was taken. If marked within 72 hours of your arrival and may show negative effects, travelers can enter. If it is marked less than 72 hours, regardless of the negative effects, travelers will have to check again upon arrival. Those who have to pass the checks on arrival must do so on their own and must be quarantined until the negative effects are received. There is a mandatory quarantine requirement for all people arriving in Hawaii for 14 days or the length of the visit, depending on the lesser of the two. Upon arrival, travelers will be asked to indicate a statement stating that the violation of this order is an illegal offense, punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 and/or one year in prison.
Starting September 1, travelers will have the option to avoid quarantining by taking a test within 72 hours prior to arrival and showing negative results upon landing. For inter-island travel, all travellers must complete a fitness statement within 24 hours of departure. Travellers will also be subject to temperature controls, and those who try more than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit will not be able to fly.
Idaho encourages those entering from states where the network is extended or the instance rate is higher than Idaho’s to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. Before you travel, you can check the state of Idaho and your home for those insights.
The Illinois Department of Public Health is asking others arriving in a country state with a Level 3 notice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to remain quarantined for 14 days.
Although there are no other travel restrictions, the state in position in Illinois, its largest city, Chicago, has a travel order that requires visitors from states experiencing strong accumulation in COVID-19 instances to be quarantined upon arrival. The few exceptions to the quarantine order are from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Anyone arriving in Massachusetts will have to remain quarantined for 14 days. Travelers from Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, New York and New Jersey are exempt from quarantine regulations, as well as a must-have staff who must go to the state for professional purposes.
New Hampshire officials are asking for out-of-state quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. Travelers arriving in the state by staying in a status quo must bring signed documents indicating that they have been remote in the house for at least 14 days prior to travel. In addition, anyone entering New York from those states must complete a traveler’s fitness that includes dissatisfaction about where they will be staying, where they have been before, and whether they have or have had COVID-19 symptoms. Officers will be mailed to airports to retrieve forms, and anyone who does not complete a form will be fined $2,000. These warranties also apply to residents. Those who have just passed through New York, or those who have just passed through one of the designated states, are exempt.
Anyone entering New Mexico, adding permanent residents, will have to remain quarantined for 14 days or the duration of their trip, depending on the shorter of the two. Essential workers, adding physical care workers, civil servants and airline employees, are exempt from the quarantine requirement. Those who transit the state are begged to avoid only essential activities, such as pumping gas or buying food. New Mexico also has a mask capture order in all public places, unless a user eats, drinks, or exercises. Anyone who fails to comply with the mask’s mandate is subject to a $100 fine.
Anyone entering Pennsylvania from endangered states will be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival. An updated list of endangered states can be found on the State Department of Health’s website.
In Newport, Rhode Island, those wearing no mask can face fines.
