COVID-19: Sri Lanka in Oman raises bar to curb spread

Muscat: In the early days of the pandemic, there were two COVID-19 deaths in the 32,000 Sri Lankan communities in Oman.

“But not anymore,” says Roy Lasantha, president of the Sri Lankan Social Club in the country, who has intervened to help members and combat spread. The two hundred positive cases that arose were isolated, treated in accordance with the rules of the Ministry of Health and all tested negative. There are no cases now as strict scenario tracking continues.

“We have a medical management organization comprising about 40 Sri Lankan doctors who can be contacted at any time for questions about COVID-19 symptoms, precautions and medications,” Lasantha continues.”Another organization guilty of educating the network through virtual discussions and seminars. They ensured the participation of young people by organizing competitions for the organization of their age.»

Stressed and depressed

For those under pressure and depressed, special activities were organized, adding online cooking contests. If any of the network members showed symptoms of the virus, an ambulance service was provided to take you to a nearby hospital.”We encourage each and every Sri Lankan to register remotely with us to make sure they are on our radar and can be contacted when they are told,” Lasantha added.

Free medications and medical facilities were provided to network members through the team of shift-working doctors to ensure they were available at all times, while approximately 1,400 packages of dry rations were distributed to those who simply did not buy food.

“The entire network has followed the rules to prevent spread and collective duty has also helped us make a contribution to the efforts of the Oman government,” he concluded.
