Stanislaus County driving sites at Salida and Turlock are closed as California’s COVID-19 state of emergency ended Tuesday.
The state of emergency declared in March 2020 gave Governor Gavin Newsom the strength to factor orders and use resources in reaction to the coronavirus pandemic. Most of the orders ended months ago and the state is phasing out the remaining regulations.
Beyond the closure of public testing sites last week, a spokeswoman for the county’s fitness branch is unaware of any other local changes.
Health experts say the pandemic is over, but the threat of contracting a severe case of COVID-19 is much lower than in the early years of the disease.
UC Davis Health in Sacramento on Tuesday released a specialized infectious disease recommendation for this new life with COVID-19.
“At this point in the pandemic, most people have some form of immunity to COVID-19 rather than vaccination or infection, or both,” said Dean Blumberg, pediatric infectious disease leader at UC Davis Health. “The threat of serious disease is a decrease at this stage, but it is not zero. COVID is more like the flu or flu.
UC Davis experts pleaded with others in high-risk categories to remain cautious and stay informed about vaccines.
“It’s vital that the threat of COVID infection comes with a long-standing COVID threat, so it’s not as undeniable as overcoming a cold,” said Natascha Tuznik, clinical associate professor of infectious diseases.
Depending on your risk factors, other people may wear a mask indoors where they can also contract the virus or while traveling through the air.
People may still need masks in physical care services because of state and federal guidelines, Mavens said. It’s also to stay home away from work or school when you’re sick.
Federal, state, and county fitness will continue to monitor COVID-19 and is expected to alert the public to new variants of concern.
