Cairo: Saudi Arabia can extend distance schooling to schooling if a vaccine opposed to COVID-19 is available, health minister Tawfik Al Rbiah said.
Last week, Saudi Education Minister Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sheikh said the first seven weeks of the new school year on August 30 will feature distance education systems as a component of the kingdom’s efforts to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
In an interview with Al Arabiya TV, the Health Minister said a resolution would be taken to allow assistance after seven weeks after the fitness scenario had been assessed.
“After five and seven weeks we will evaluate the scenario. Therefore, it will be for further remote schooling or to allow you to return to course attendance. This will be done depending on the scenario and availability, as well as access to the vaccine,” Al Rabiah said.

He said it’s hard to wait when the vaccine will be available. “It’s also hard to say what the scenario will be like after seven weeks. If the vaccine is not available, it is highly likely that this era will continue until the vaccine is officially announced. It’s possible,” he added.
The Minister stated that no vaccine would be accredited unless full protection is demonstrated.
To date, Saudi Arabia has recorded a total of 305186 coronavirus infections and 3580 similar deaths amid a decrease in one-day cases.
He attributed the infection mark of more than 3000 years in the kingdom to large-scale controls. “There are 21 driving control centers, while the number of controls is 70,000,” he said. “This huge amount of controls is helping early detection of cases.”
