COVID-19: Saudi government to disinfect garbage boxes in Mecca

Cairo: Authorities in the Saudi holy city of Mecca have ordered cleaning companies to sterilize and disinfect trash cans from the streets to be of public utility and help stop the spread of coronavirus.

The head of the municipality of Mecca, Shawqia, Ing.Akram Bin Ali Al Harbi, said that personal cleaning corporations had been given rules to disinfect garbage boxes in cooperation with the General Cleaning Authority, accentuate cleaning paints and waste from residential areas.

He suggested that citizens and expats keep the holy city clean, dispose of trash at random and protect the environment, the Sabq online newspaper reported wednesday.

Mecca, home to Islam’s holiest site, is like the “sacred capital” of Saudi Arabia.
