COVID-19 outbreaks in Larimer County: Loveland nursing home has a second epidemic

This account has been updated to reflect two deaths in a nursing home where an outbreak of COVID-19 had already been reported.

COVID-19 resurfaced in the same long-term care center where it was first detected in Larimer County, according to the outbreak published Wednesday through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Five new outbreaks were reported Wednesday, when the county also reported two new deaths at Seven Lakes Memory Care in Loveland: an 86-year-old on August 5 and an eight- and five-year-old on August 9.

Deaths bring the number of coronavirus deaths in the county to 37. Nineteen of these deaths are from epidemics in nursing facilities.

Other outbreaks reported on Wednesday at:

Level Engineering and the Dental Clinic each reported two cases shown (the minimum to be an outbreak in the state and county), while Walmart at 1250 E. Magnolia St. reported 3. North Shore reported that two citizens and 3 staff members tested positive for August 10, according to county data.

Yvonne Myers, director of fitness systems at Columbine Health Systems, owner of North Shore, said all citizens were assessed after two staff members tested positive. Two citizens also tested positive, one was asymptomatic, he said.

“The virus is slow and sneaky with fragile elders,” Myers said. “It’s hard to see. We know where he is.”

The initial outbreak on The North Shore, which began in March, has spread to 31 cases shown and 11 probable cases, with six COVID-19-like deaths and five other likely deaths. The outbreak was thought to have been resolved on May 19.

Meanwhile, the Northern Larimer County Health District Dental Clinic closed Monday for at least a week after a clinic staff member tested positive at one point. The clinic worker tested positive at the end of July and was quarantined at home.

The staff and patients affected were informed and referred to autoquarent, according to a report of the fitness district published on their website.

Three other dental clinics that were in close contact with the worker were also quarantined for 14 days, according to the website.

As a precaution, the district said construction at 202 Bristlecone Drive would remain closed during the week. A resolution will be taken later this week about the clinic will remain closed next week.

“It’s a reminder that COVID-19 still exists in our community, and it’s up to all of us to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to prevent you from spreading, whether in the office and outside the community,” the doctor said. Director of the Health District, Dr. James Stewart.

Rodizio’s owner, Ryan Houdek, said cases involving a manager and some other workers were known through tactile search before none showed symptoms. Both were removed from the restaurant’s schedule, quarantined and tested positive in isolation, he said.

The place to eat closed for a day on July 30 for “a schedule readjustment and a thorough clean-up,” Houdek said.

The last time one of the workers tested positive in the dining room three weeks ago.

Rodizio is the seventh place to eat in having an outbreak of COVID-19, which the state defines as two or more positive cases within 14 days.

Walmart declined to comment on outbreaks at express outlets, but said it is working to make sure its outlets are cleaned and disinfected regularly.

“We strive to serve our consumers at this unprecedented time” and have implemented protective measures, adding workers’ fitness controls, sneezing protectors on boxes, and decals on the ground to ensure a social distance of 6 feet, according to corporate documentation.

Companies suffering from outbreaks, in addition to restaurants, must close until they have protective measures, said Katie O’Donnell, a spokeswoman for the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment.

“Masking, social estrangement, and smart hand hygiene are investigated when there is a positive case in an employer, and all nearby contacts get quarantine orders to prevent the spread of the disease,” he said.

“If there are security measures, then you must move to the department stores and restaurants. If the measurements are not in place, we provide recommendations to make sure it is Array.”

If employers fail to comply with county protection recommendations and measures, the fitness branch may close them until they put in place appropriate practices.

“Most closures are due to the lack of enough to remain open,” O’Donnell said.

Restaurants did a wonderful job of following disinfection guidelines, preventing poor health workers from running and dressing in masks, Houdek said. “I sit in the restaurants.”

Level Engineering co-owner Anya Zurn said two of her four employees tested positive after an employee returned from St. Louis. The other two staff members came back negative. As a precautionary measure, Level Engineering closed its construction for a week.
