COVID-19 outbreak reported at Cargill Case Ready facility in Calgary

An outbreak of COVID-19 was reported at Case Ready in Cargill, Calgary. It is an “additional processing” facility that sells meat products to supermarkets in western Canada.

Five cases of the virus have been shown at the installation, according to the latest provincial update. About 400 other people paint in Case Ready.

“A lot of tests are underway,” Dr. Deena Hinshaw, the province’s leading health medical officer, said in a tweet. “AHS and OHS have visited the plant and are making sure that mandatory measures are in a position to reduce transmission and workers.”

Earlier this year, more than 950 boxes were connected to the Cargill meat processing plant near the High River, south of Calgary. This number made it, at one point, the largest COVID-19 outbreak in North America.

The union leader who called for stricter security measures in the recently said the meat plant had taken another step toward safety ever since.

More to come.
