COVID-19 outbreak related to church collection in Maine

A church in Brooks, Maine, has the site of a new COVID-19 outbreak.

At least 42 cases come from the Pentecostal Church in Brooks, which hosted between 70 and 100 domestic participants, CBS News reports. The church also organized a multi-day “fraternity meeting” with other churches in the area, which brought together at least 150 people in combination.

The CDC in Maine has launched an investigation into the outbreak, either at church and at school on the same property, Lighthouse Christian Academy. Although the outbreak had 17 cases shown on Saturday, it rose to 42 on Tuesday. Christian Academy, seven of the school’s 42 instances. The school has 27 students, from kindergarten to high school. There have also been similar instances to a nearby long-term care facility and 4 nearby schools, none of those spaces are experiencing an outbreak.

Dr. Nirav D. Shah, director of the CDC in Maine, said the epidemic “is evolving rapidly” at a news convention on Tuesday. He added that he expected the number of cases to accumulate in the coming days, “perhaps significantly. “patients in poor health were between 2 and 80 years old.

The church held the “fraternity meeting” between 2 and 4 October, attended by around one hundred to 150 people. People from nearby churches also attended.

Brooks Church also organized separate services, which took another 70 to 100 people inside. The church’s Facebook live broadcast showed that the faithful were unaware of social distance and were not dressed in face masks.

Church officials told the CDC in Maine that “masks were available, but not commonly used” at normal facilities and at the larger event. The church temporarily closed the facility following a request from the CDC in Maine.

“As pastor of the Pentecostal Church in Brooks, I would like to express my sadness at the resulting disease that has spread through the virus,” Pastor MWShaw said on a Tuesday. “While the origin of the virus is unclear, we will respond to all recommendations and rules provided to us through the CDC. Our church will technology our continuity of worship in a safe and orderly manner.

He added: “It comforts us right now that there have been no hospitalizations and, more importantly, there have been no deaths. “

The pastor boasts that thousands of others forget about COVID-19 for what is known as the ‘prayer meeting’ at the California Capitol.
