COVID-19: Oman reports 2164 new ones amid outbreak

Cairo: Oman showed on Monday the record number of 2164 additional cases of the new coronavirus in an upward curve, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 58179.

Newly diagnosed cases come with 1,572 Omanis and 592 foreign residents, the ministry of fitness said, according to Omani news firm ONA.

The ministry announced two more deaths from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths in Oman to 259.

There are 146 patients in intensive care units, he added.

The country’s overall recovery from the disease increased to 1,159, bringing the total to 37,257 days, the ministry said.

The sultanate conducted 6,173 COVID-19 tests for the first time since the virus outbreak, bringing the total number of tests to 244,787, the ministry reported in an update.

An ideal committee to combat COVID-19 last week promised more difficult sanctions against precautionary offenders amid an increase in sultanate infection.
