COVID-19: Mosques to reopen in Bahrain

Cairo: Bahrain has announced the slow reopening of mosques after delays due to a coronavirus outbreak.

The country’s Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs said mosques would reopen for the prayers of devout organizations and meetings in accordance with mandatory precautionary measures, Bahraini news firm BNA reported.

The council added that recommendations from medical agencies to involve the virus will be followed.

Coordination will be carried out between the Ministry of Justice, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, as well as the Sunni and Jaafari Staffing Departments to establish mandatory measures to reopen mosques in accordance with the precautions we take through the national team of runners to deal with COVID-19.

According to the plan, the Fajr congregation’s prayers (at dawn) will only be allowed first in the kingdom’s mosques from Friday, said the Ministry of Justice and Awqaf, according to the newspaper Akhbar Al Khaleej.

The ministry warned that it will close mosques that comply with fitness precautions.

The Gulf country had postponed the reopening of mosques several times in the past, originally scheduled for June 5, due to an increase in virus cases.

Bahrain has reported a total of 50,393 coronavirus infections and 186 deaths.
