COVID-19 mortality rate in Dominican Republic soars in weeks

The COVID-19 mortality rate in the Dominican Republic is increasing. According to the knowledge of Saturday’s epidemiological bulletin through Public Health, mortality in the country is 1.78%. This represents 10 decimal places more than two weeks ago (1.68%). The expansion is due to the rate being 2.96% in the last two weeks.

However, the accumulation of deaths can be explained by the small number of positive cases that have been known in recent days. This, in turn, is due to significant relief in the number of tests.

Excluding rates, samples and congruent with percentages, August will end as the month with the maximum number of deaths in the Dominican Republic. As of Saturday, the deaths were 503, at most the same as 18 deaths consistent with the day. Compared to July, which ended with 416 deaths and an average of thirteen deaths consistent with the day, it can be said that in the country, five other people lost their lives with the day than last month.

Despite the figures, the Minister of Public Health, Plutarco Arias, said last Friday: “The curve has flattened, we hope that we will continue to flatten it and that in the next days, in 15 or 20 days, we will reduce it.”

This would possibly seem too optimistic, but what the new government has had in favor is that the rate of positivity of checks in the aforementioned era is 17.78%, 8 percentage points decrease that the overall positivity rate (25.76%), although experts warn that the low number of checks do not allow us to depend on the actual scenario of COVID-19 in the country.

Another knowledge that would possibly apply is that the number of other people recovered in recent weeks is 13,415, nearly double the 7,423 reported cases reported from August 16 to date.

Meanwhile, the government has announced a number of new measures to counter COVID-19. In addition to automating processes for purchasing tests in the country, start analyzing approximately 7,000 tests consistently with the day. In addition, the hiring of a thousand doctors, the accreditation of 17 public laboratories, the construction in the availability of beds and the inclusion and participation of municipalities and social organizations in the progression of the planned activities.

We’ll see if we flatten that curve.
