Dr. Sani Aliyu, national coordinator of the Presidential Working Group on COVID-19, revealed that more than 27,000 foreign passengers arrived in Nigeria through the COVID-19 pandemic despite strict procedures for opening Lagos and Abuja airports.
Aliyu said this was a webinar organized Saturday through the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and coordinated through its chairman/CEO, the honorable Bike Dabiri-Erewa for Nigerians entering the country through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aliyu said that of the 27,000 passengers, 18,000 arrived through the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, while the remaining 9,000 arrived through the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja.
He explained that the executing organization had proposed what others thought were strict procedures because it was imperative to restrict the importation of Covid-19 into Nigeria, to prevent it from transmitting the flight and to decrease the quarantine period.
He told Nigerians in the diaspora who participated in the webinar that public labs cannot conduct loose testing because the federal government cannot and it is not sustainable.
“It’s anything the government can afford. We’re going to run out of verification kits, ” he said. He explained that the federal government gets cash paid to personal laboratories as it would have liked to subsidize, but that it is sustainable through government.
“We appreciate the difficulties other people are going through. It will be resolved,” as it commended NIDCOM for living up to expectations by coordinating diaspora considerations on implemented protocols.
Aliyu added that the merit of pre-shipment verification is to prevent others with Covid-19 from establishing themselves in Nigeria, as verification will be conducted no more than 120 hours before boarding.
He also pleaded with travellers outside Nigeria to check with the country they travel to if control of Covid 19 is a condition of entry.
Speaking about the main position of the test, Aliyu said the federal government was looking to reduce pcr’s position for personal laboratories that in turn will paint in the sector.
The National Coordinator said young people under the age of 10 do want to take the check and “if they have applied for payment, they will be reimbursed. “
With regard to the verification procedure for foreign travelers staying outside Lagos or Abuja, Aliyu said: “If there is no personal laboratory in its final destination state, the laboratory you have selected for verification at the time of registration will be configured for your employer to be removed from a designated laboratory.
“TFP and NCDC are running with all states to create a personal mechanism. We’ve already approached 6 or 7 states that have personal labs in their states,” he said.
He revealed that a list of accredited personal laboratories, especially if traveling outside the country, is located on the NCDC micro site covid19. ncdc. gov. ng/personallabs,” he said.
He suggested that all passengers travelling to Nigeria update all required data on the Nigerian foreign portal before boarding, which will automatically generate a QR code that is required upon arrival.
He also said that any passenger who is forced to pay more than once will have to be reimbursed, adding that groups of visitor services have been parked at airports.
Previously, the Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, president and ceo of NIDCOM, said the Commission held the public assembly of the webinar due to the judicial cases and frustrations faced by some Nigerians in the diaspora, in order to tell and disseminate useful information.
Dabiri-Erewa asked all travelers to be patient with PTF COVID-19’s immigration policy, and said every effort will be made to alleviate the difficulties faced by those entering the country.
In response, Mr. Obed Monago, President of NIDO Americas, Mr. Olawale Odutayo, Mr. Tony Issima and other speakers congratulated the honorable Dabiri-Erewa Cyclist on being proactive in addressing diaspora considerations all the time.
