COVID-19 megatest opens near Atlanta airport

ATLANTA, Georgia (CW69 News at 10) – At 1800 Sullivan Road in College Park, near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, cars were covered and full of drivers waiting to check COVID-19 on August 10, 2020.

Governor Brian Kemp announced the opening of a mega-punch at a press conference.

“Testing is a key weapon in our fight to prevent the spread of COVID-19. With solid, accurate and available evidence, we can locate the virus, isolate it, and prevent its spread,” Kemp said.

Authorities said there were now 170 checkpoints across the state, and said the new site has the capacity to monitor another 5,000 people a day.

Kemp said they were encouraged by the recent drop in positivity rates and hospitalizations, but said there is still a long way to go.

“Right here in Clayton County, we see one of the highest positivity rates in the state, about 20%. This is unacceptable, and that’s why it’s so important,” he said.

Kemp joined through U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams, who said the tests go hand in hand with compliance with the rules through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“I need you to understand why taking these public fitness measures will help you do more things you love: worship, school, restaurants,” Adams said. “I need to see the Falcons and Hawks play again.”

State officials said hospitalizations were below 3,000 for the first time in three weeks, and said the number represented a 10% drop in 10 days.

“The main predictor of the option to reopen safely is whether we can continue with positivity rates and cases in Georgia, as it did.”

Adams showed how citizens will get a package with a swab to self-administer the test. In addition to the tests, Adams said flattening the curve will feature the other people who stick at 3 “W”: “Wash your hands, wear a mask and control your distance.”

Officials said the site will be open until August 26. Appointments and online registration are recommended. For more information, click here.
