Paris: A resident of a Paris suburb says he was beaten with baseball bats because he asked another laundry visitor to wear a mask, a requirement in all indoor public places in France to combat the resurgence of coronavirus infections.
The surveillance video of the attack published Tuesday through the le Parisien newspaper shows two other people with bats and two others attacking a masked guy inside the laundry and then fleeing, leaving him face down on the floor.
The victim, known only as Augustine, told BFM tv that he was beaten for asking one of the attackers to put on a mask when he entered the laundry in the town of Soisy-sous-Montmorency, north of Paris.
“I had a mask, I asked this user to put on the mask,” Augustine said. “I acted like I didn’t listen, I insisted. He called his brother or cousin or someone he knew outside … they were threatening, insulting.”
A few minutes later, he saw two other people coming in with baseball bats. “I stuck to my back, in my sien, on the skull.”
Le Parisien reported that he had filed a complaint with the police. The identity of the attackers is clear.
France has experienced scattered incidents related to masking resistance, which are also needed outdoors in several cities and towns.
In the most dramatic case, the driving force of a French bus was hit to death after asking passengers to wear a face mask on their vehicle. The case outraged France and provoked government conviction. Four other people have been charged with death.
