BEIJING (Reuters) – New cases of the novel coronavirus transmitted in China fell to a month low as a group in the western region of Xinjiang withdrew, according to knowledge released Sunday through the country’s fitness government.
The number of cases transmitted in China fell to 4 on August 15, all in Xinjiang, the National Health Commission said in a statement, which compares to 8 cases nationwide the day before and is the lowest since July 16.
No new transmission cases were reported on August 15 in Shenzhen City, in southern Guangdong Province, after the provincial government reported new infections a day earlier.
A woman working for the Alibaba-owned freshippo supermarket chain in Shenzhen returned to Lufeng and tested positive for the virus on August 14.Both cities are in Guangdong.
On the same day, Lufeng also reported 3 asymptomatic cases, while Shenzhen reported two asymptomatic carriers.
Asymptomatic cases test positive for the virus, however, China classifies them as cases shown until they show clinical symptoms of infection, such as fever or cough.
The Guangdong government has begun checking at 36 Freshippo outlets in Guangdong and 12 warehouses and related processing companies, the official Xinhua news firm reported on Sunday, which announced Saturday that it would check all Shenzhen employees.
In mainland China, the total number of new infections showed 19 on August 15, adding so-called imported cases involving overseas travelers, compared to 22 a day earlier.
As of August 15, there were 84827 shown coronavirus in mainland China, with the death toll unchanged in 4634.
