COVID-19: Kuwait plan for 12th graders

Kuwait: Kuwait’s Ministry of Education has announced a plan to continue the 2019-2020 era for grade 12 academics in public schools.

All 12th grade students will be required to take 4 online courses consistent with the day and all subjects will be taught virtually. The rating mechanism will be as follows: 25% participation, 25% participation, 25 tasks and 25% for reports.

In addition, the ministry has developed a plan for the pathways to be taken for grade 12 students: science, humanities and religion. Public school students have the opportunity to decide the course they take, which is vital to attend college in Kuwait, as this affects the main option.

The resolution came after the government announced on July 16 the end of the 2019-2020 school year, after all public schools were suspended on March 12 and the government extended the suspension until August 4.

Education Minister Dr. Saud Al Harbi proposed a report suggesting that all academics, from kindergarten through grade 11, merge in the first semester and that all academics who have completed more than 4 subjects will move into the school year. As for 12th graders, they should continue the school year online and follow the scoring mechanism explained through the ministry.

These measures only apply to Grade 12 students in public schools, as personal schools have imposed e-learning on students so they can complete the school year.

Regarding the reopening of schools, Al Harbi proposed that the 2020-2021 school year should begin between October 4 and 11, but if the COVID-19 scenario is resolved, the courses will be online. There has been no plan to reopen schools, either public or private.
