COVID-19: Kuwait considers flight ban

Cairo: The Kuwaiti government is considering ending the ban on flights from 31 countries and allowing air from them as part of strict fitness precautions, Kuwaiti newspaper Al Rai reported on Sunday.

Earlier this month, Kuwait announced a ban on passengers from 31 “high-risk” countries until they realize orders from Kuwait’s fitness government due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

The ban includes India, Pakistan, Egypt and the Philippines, which have expat communities in Kuwait.

Al Rai, citing well-informed sources, quoted a government that aimed to end the ban on travellers from 31 countries after coordination with the Kuwaiti authorities on physical fitness and civil aviation.

Two State Committees to Combat COVID-19 and the Kuwait International Airport Re-Operation are operating “comprehensively” to resume flights from around the world, adding 31 countries, in accordance with strict legal and suitability provisions, said unidentified resources.

One proposal is to require travellers from outside Kuwait to be placed in institutional quarantine for 14 days in their care at designated hotels in Kuwait, as do other Arab countries.

The proposed measure promises an institutional quarantine, which internally, within Kuwait, added resources.

“These measures are dictated by practical needs, basically the desire for foreign painters to return [from foreigners] to painters in certain sectors, adding teachers who will begin painting early next month,” a source said.

Kuwait’s resolve to suspend flights from all 31 countries came into force on 1 August when Kuwait International Airport reopened for advertising flights after a four-month break at 30% of its capacity.
