Cairo: Kuwaiti government got rid of a debatable restriction prohibiting taxis from carrying more than one passenger according to the trip after a demonstration, Al Rai newspaconsistent reported thursday.
On Sunday, corporate taxi house owners held an outdoor sit-in at the Interior Ministry, protesting the ban, saying it was not very serene and was causing them monetary losses.
Starting today, taxis can serve 3 passengers at once, Al Rai said, mentioning a protest organizer.
The restriction for a single passenger was canceled after a delegation representing taxi owners met with deputy undersecretary of transit at the Ministry of the Interior, General Jamal Al Sayagh.
“During the meeting, we explained the suffering of taxi companies, and requested the cancellation of the resolution to a passenger and the extension of the operation of the 2013-style taxis for another year,” said Abdul Aziz Al Mutairi, owner. of a corporate taxi and organizer of the event.
The transit officer agreed to allow taxis to attend to the number of passengers mentioned in the car license, i. e. 3 passengers, Al Mutairi told the newspaper. Model 2013 taxis can also operate for another year.
“The resolution takes since Thursday,” Al Mutairi added.
He said Division General Al Sayagh had also pledged to alleviate the misfortunes of small taxi operators and reduce their losses by ordering traffic patrols to electronically book personal cars that bring passengers illegally.
