COVID-19: Jordan denies final border with Saudi Arabia

Cairo: Jordan definitively denied a border crossing with Saudi Arabia after reports said the store had been shut down due to new coronavirus infections.

Jordan’s official news firm, Petra, quoted the interior minister as saying that Al Omari’s move to Saudi Arabia would be closed.

Jordanian online newspaper Al Ghad, which mentions an industry trade unionist, said the crossing of Al Omari, one of three on the Jordan-Saudi border, was shut down after 18 viral infections were reported among its employees.

The head of fruit and vegetable exporters, Saadi Abu Hamad, told the newspaper that closure is a precaution to involve the virus and that no date has been set for the reopening of the crossing.

Jordan’s Ministry of Health showed the infections and said patients would be taken to quarantine hospitals.

Last week, Jordan closed the Jaber industry crossing with Syria after a build-up of virus cases. Today, Jordan said the closure of the crossing would last another week, according to Petra.
