Cairo: Jordanian government closed a border crossing with Saudi Arabia in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus, media reports.
Eighteen infections were detected among workers at the crossing of Al Omari, one of three on the Jordan-Saudi border, Jordanian online newspaper Al Ghad reported.
Closure is a precaution to involve the virus. No date has been set for the reopening of the crossing, said the head of fruit and vegetable exporters, Saadi Abu Hamad, as quoted through the newspaper.
“The exporters’ union is following the closure of the border with the relevant government agencies, as around a hundred Jordanian trucks, basically loaded with vegetables and fruits, are waiting for Al Omari to pass,” Abu Hamad added. There was no immediate comment from the Jordanian authorities.
