Community spread of COVID-19 remains the highest in Alachua County with 1,083 new cases reported to state fitness officials last week.
The most recent report from the Florida Department of Health also shows that 25 percent of tests reported to the state have resulted in positive infections. The number of new cases reflects a rate of 390 new infections compared to another 100,000 people in Alachua County.
Meanwhile, the number of vaccines against the disease, for other people over the age of 6, dropped to 237.
Infections bottomed out in April at 108 in a week after hitting a January pandemic peak of 6524, driven by the delta variant of SARS-COv-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Since the spring, the number of cases caused by omicron subvariants has risen again, far from the peak in January.

Florida has recorded more COVID-19 deaths in the two weeks than in months.
The death toll in the state rose by an average of 452 each week in the current part of July, according to figures from the Florida Department of Health. This is the highest since late March, when the giant wave of infections caused by the omicron variant of the coronavirus was declining.
Unlike previous surges, this one was greatly underestimated. The backlog of internal controls has helped decrease the number of checks performed by professionals, which means government agencies have fewer positive results in controls.
The state Department of Health no longer provides county-level information on COVID-19 DEATHS and reports information on infections every two weeks.
While the number of new COVID cases averaged about 74,000 during the week in Florida from June 17 to the week ending Friday, the testing percentage rose from 17. 4% at the time to 20. 7%, state health officials report.
BA. 5 represents more than 80 new cases, according to estimates by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The number of COVID-positive patients in hospitals across the state continues to exceed 4000. The number of patients in Florida has declined since July 11.
Gov. Ron DeSantis said in January that his administration would distinguish between patients who pass into the hospital because of the illness and those who test positive while in the hospital. That hasn’t happened yet.

The number of vaccines in Florida has moved slightly since the state Department of Health’s last biweekly COVID report. While BA. 5 appears to evade some of the immunity from vaccines, scientists note that vaccines are a primary deterrent to serious disease.
The state’s fitness has recorded 19,125 new vaccines consistent with the week since July 15.
In total, more than 15. 9 million people across the state were shot at least once in the arm. That covers about 74 percent of Florida’s population, adding about 1. 5 percent of children under the age of 5, according to state health officials.
More than 7. 8 million other people across the state have earned withdrawals.
COVID has inflamed nearly 6. 8 million Floridians and killed at least 77,565 since the pandemic began, the state Department of Health reported Friday.
That death toll includes no more than 3,000 deaths between March and October that doctors have called COVID deaths, but the state’s fitness department.
