The number of other people in the UK infected with COVID-19 has declined for a week in a row, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the degrees remain high.
The ONS estimated that a total of 2. 6 million other people in private families had coronavirus in the week ending July 26, according to self-reports from a representative sample.
That was down 19% from 3. 2 million the previous week.
Overall, COVID-19 infections are trending downward in most of the UK, the way forward in Northern Ireland is uncertain, the ONS added.
The peak of the recent peak wave fell well below the UK record of 4. 9 million recorded at the end of March.
The ONS reported that there were 745 COVID-related deaths in England and Wales in the week ending July 22.
Although the recent spike in cases has been less severe than in the past, the relentless strain is wreaking havoc on emergency services.

Dr Mohammed Munavvar told Sky News that his hospital’s work to accept NHS waiting lists had made a breach, but now that has been disrupted.
He said: “Other patients cannot be admitted and treated, and patients have already been waiting for their procedures for a long time and their remedy is being delayed again. “
“This puts a lot of pressure on the formula and on the recovery work, which worked very well. “
Professor Paul Hunter, Professor of Medicine at UEA, said: “Until about 2 weeks ago, the proportion of other people who tested positive for covid continued to decline in all 4 countries.
“The most recent DHSC marker data published on Wednesday, the ZOE app (published today) and hospital activity figures from England’s NHS (published yesterday) show that infections and hospital admissions continue to decline during the era from the highest recent knowledge included in today’s ONS. bulletin.
“Even deaths within 28 days of a positive control are decreasing. At the moment, I don’t see any variation in COG UK’s knowledge that goes against trend. Even the BA. 2. 75 “Centaur” lineage does not increase, so I expect this decline to continue for several more weeks. “
