The number of new COVID-19 cases in Marion County is declining, with 1,869 new cases reported for the two-week era ending Aug. 11, according to the Florida Department of Health’s biweekly report released Friday.

This number, accumulated from July 29 to August 29, 11, is reduced from 2,354 from July 15 to 28, 2,172 from July 1 to 14 and 1,907 from June 17 to 30.

The Florida Department of Health in Marion County said that during the week of Aug. 12-18 there were 876 cases of COVID-19, 1182 for the week of July 22-28 and 1199 for the week of July 8-14.

The total number of new ones has decreased by 20. 6% over the past two weeks.

Although the number of instances has more than tripled since mid-May, the numbers are still far from Marion’s record: Marion’s one-week record of 5336 instances, an average of 462 instances consistent with the day, for the week of January 7-13. Marion County has recorded an average of 168 cases per day for the past two weeks.
