Joan Devin of Children’s Health of Orange County, California, and colleagues described the incidence, presentation, and clinical outcomes of neonatal COVID-19. We included data from more than one million neonatal visits in 109 U. S. fitness systems. U. S. from March 2020 to February 2021.
The researchers found that 0. 1% of newborns (91. 1/100,000 encounters) were diagnosed with COVID-19, of whom 7. 7% had a severe infection (7/100,000). There was a median of 14. 5 days between birth and diagnosis. Tachypnea and fever were not unusual symptoms of infection. The likelihood of receiving breathing was higher in other people with severe infection (50. 7 vs. 5. 2%). 33. 8, 32. 4, 26. 8, 2. 8 and 1. 4 per cent, respectively). Overall, 93. 6% and 1. 1% of newborns were sent home and transferred to another hospital, respectively; for 5. 2% the prestige of the exit was unknown. One newborn (0. 1%) died after 11 days of hospitalization; the presentation suggested a multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children.
