COVID-19 hits 17 Gordon Senate staff members

MANILA, Philippines – Seven other members of Senator Richard Gordon tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of cases among its workers to 17, announced their workplace Tuesday.

“I was exposed and terrified because my wife, you know, Kate is immunocompromised. It had nearly 17 employees and security personnel, all of whom are lately quarantined, at IQ [Quezon Institute] and in some hotels,” Gordon said. , who is also president of the Philippine Red Cross (CPP).

According to the senator’s office, another forty-five members of the CPP also tested positive for the virus.

“Even some other people from the Red Cross. We had 62 other people affected, most of whom were medical technicians. So it’s a disease we want to respect. Don’t take any chances, stay home,” Gordon continued.

“And I’m glad we can do it here in the Senate,” he added, referring to teleconferences in sessions and hearings in the upper house amid the virus threats. “It’s a very exclusive way and I think it also reduces the burden on us, especially our families and especially the ones we know.”

Previously, a total of 20 Senate workers had tested positive in the past for the virus.

To date, the Philippine fitness government has shown 83,673 cases of COVID-19 in the country. Of these, 26,617 have already recovered and 1,947 have died.
