PARIS: France will step up police checks to ensure that others wear a mask where it is mandatory and respect social distance amid a new wave of COVID-19 infections, a government spokesman said Wednesday (August 12).

“We are at a turning point. Array. We will mobilize the police to make checks,” Gabriel Attal told BFM TV on a stopover on the Mediterranean island of Corsica.

“But it’s not the police who are afraidArray … he’s worried about the virus, which hides and pollutes,” he said.

The use of mask in some crowded spaces around Paris is mandatory on Monday as a component of a crusade to stop a strong accumulation of COVID-19 infections.

The ordinance, which applies to others over the age of 11 and up, covers the busy outdoor spaces of the French capital, tourist sites such as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the side road of the Champs-Elysées are not listed.

France has ordered the use of a face mask in enclosed public spaces such as department stores and banks since 21 July, and Paris joins a developing list of cities ordering others to wear masks in crowded areas, adding Toulouse, Lille and Biarritz.

After strict blocking measures have lowered infection rates, many European countries are now seeing new groups break out after tightening restrictions to restrict economic damage and alleviate public frustration.
