COVID-19: FG receives second batch of medical supplies from united Nations Joint Fund

Health Minister Dr. Osagie Ehanire joined other stakeholders to receive the current batch of medicines purchased from the Joint United Nations Fund for Response to COVID-19 on behalf of the federal government.

Olujimi Oyetomi, director of information, media and public relations at the federal health ministry, said at a Friday issue in Abuja.

Oyetomi said Ehanire had joined the national coordinator of the presidential organisation at COVID-19, Dr. Sani Aliyu of the shipping segment at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, to obtain medical materials from EU contributions for 26 billion naira.

Ehanire said that by the time the batch of medical materials would dispel the fears of fitness workers, especially frontline fitness workers, who think Nigeria is running out of materials and threatens a strike.

The minister said an agreement had been put in place for foreign establishments and friends such as the EU and the UN to be rebuilt.

It trusted the EU and the UN for a judicious distribution of medical equipment in the areas.

The commercial charge a.i. Alexander Borges – Gomes coordinated the delivery of supplies.

Borges-Gomes revealed that the pieces were purchased through the United Nations COVID-19 Canasta Fund thanks to a significant European Union contribution of 50 million euros (26 billion naira).

Medical materials come with 500,000 face protectors; 200,000 glasses; one hundred oropharyngeal airways; 10,000 biopeligal bags; and 14,000 safety deposit boxes.

Borges-Gomes revealed that this is the time when the batch of medical materials is shipped through Team Europe, the EU and its Member States after the arrival of the first batch in mid-June, adding that “Team Europe operates internationally and here is the effort on behalf of Nigeria.”

The envoy said the concept of Team Europe to counter the global devastation of COVID-19.

He expressed the hope that the apparatus would serve the Nigerian government’s reaction efforts as a whole, but in particular would protect the heroic workers of frontline fitness.
