COVID-19: Electronic payment to King Fahd Causeway begins today

Cairo: Electronic payment of user fees for King Fahd road should begin today, said the operator of the facility that joins Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

The King Fahd Causeway Authority (KFCA) said the electronic payment formula would be available for cars, trucks and motorcycles without having to pay in cash.

“You no longer want an ATM before hitting the road,” the KFCA said on its Twitter account.

Membership card holders can view them on KFCA’s official website.

The doors recently installed on the pavement also allow users to carry out transit procedures without having to deal with the staff.

The proposed new door is expected to be completed until next March, allowing automatic weighing of shipping and door opening, thus reducing waiting times for vehicles.

The 25 km long road was closed on March 7 as part of a series of measures to combat the spread of coronavirus.

The facility was reopened in late July when Gulf countries were relaxing with virus-like measures for the economy.

During the suspension of its operation, the road underwent a renovation for the replacement of the old doors on the Saudi side.

The bridge opened in 1986 and has since been important to the movement between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, two members of the six Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
