RECENT DEVELOPMENTS:
Ottawa Public Health’s (OPH) weekly update on respiratory issues shows that COVID-19 grades are lower than the other two heavily monitored viruses.
COVID is low in all 4 categories of the update, while RSV is more moderate.
Wastewater levels and flu-related hospitalizations are very high, as this flu season spreads much later than the previous one.
However, none of the trends seen through OPH are on the rise.
OPH says the city’s fitness services remain at the highest risk for respiratory illnesses, as has been the case since late August. This will be the case until respiratory illnesses return to low levels.
Experts recommend that people cough, wear masks, keep their hands and high-touch surfaces clean, stay home when sick, and get COVID and flu shots for themselves and the vulnerable.
Ottawa’s coronavirus-related wastewater had fallen for about 10 days through March 18 to its lowest point since July.
The average positivity rate of weekly checks in the city is seven percent. There are 14 new COVID-related hospitalizations in the city and the number of active COVID outbreaks is six.
Two more COVID deaths were reported in the capital. OPH’s next update on COVID vaccination is expected to be in early April.
The Kingston Region Health Unit is once again in a high-risk breathing season. Their trends are usually stable, although local wastewater readings and the number of outbreaks have increased slightly.
The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) continues to assess his overall breathing as moderate and stable.
The weekly number of Hastings Prince Edward (HPE) COVID hospitals remains at three. Flu activity is low.
Western Quebec is down to 17 hospitalized patients who tested positive for COVID. The province is reporting COVID deaths.
The data from Leeds, Grenville and Lanark (LGL) dates back to March 10, when their trends were most commonly downward. Added one death due to COVID in its weekly update.
Renfrew County’s next update is Thursday.
