The number of COVID-19 infections in China peaked around Dec. 22, with a peak of nearly 7 million new cases on that day, the official from China’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention said in a report on the national epidemic situation released. Visits to the fever clinic peaked at 2. 87 million on Dec. 23.
The number of deaths from COVID-19 infections in hospitals peaked at 4273 on Jan. 4, then continued to fall, falling to 896 on Jan. 23, a 79 percent drop, the center said.
The number of other people hospitalized for COVID-19 infections nationwide peaked at 1. 63 million on Jan. 5, then continued to decline, falling to 248,000 on Jan. 23. Among them, the number of critically ill patients topped nearly 10,000 in one day starting in December. January 27 to 3. The total fell to 36,000 on Jan. 23.
Surveillance effects from the report that the epidemic strains in this series were BA. 5. 2 and BF. 7, and no new mutant strains have yet been discovered in the country.
