COVID-19 confirmed in Africa exceeds 810,000

Addis Ababa: The number of COVID-19 projections across the African continent reached 810,008 on Saturday, the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Africa) said.

CDC Africa, a fitness firm of the African Union Commission (AU), in its latest update to the Saturday-released scenario, said the number of cases shown of Covid-19 across the continent increased from 787501 on Friday to 810,008 on Saturday afternoon. Xinhua reported.

The CDC Africa report said the number of pandemic-like deaths increased to 17,088 until Saturday afternoon from 16,697 on Friday afternoon.

The Continental Agency for Disease Control and Prevention also noted that some 462,374 patients who were tested for Covid-19 have recovered across the continent so far.

South Africa is the most affected country in Africa, followed by Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria and Morocco, he noted.

The southern African region is the highest hit in terms of cases shown, followed by North and West Africa, said CDC Africa.

CDC Africa said earlier this week that around 40 African countries are still under “full border closure,” while night curfew has been activated in some 34 countries in an effort to prevent the spread of the infectious virus.
