On the front line at Amazon’s Fife distribution center, normal Covid-19 tests will be presented in time for what is arguably its most active pre-Christmas era to date.
A pilot internal testing program is being implemented at key online retailer sites in the coming weeks amid persistent considerations that a serious outbreak can have a very negative effect on the company’s operations.
Dunfermline of Amazon, one of the largest in the country, already employs more than 1,000 people, however, the company has committed to create another two hundred permanent positions until the end of 2020 and is recruiting for more than 1,000 seasonal positions in the kingdom.
The check programme is being implemented in the UK through Antoine Dreyfus, Amazon’s former device manager in the EU, following an initiative in the US. But it’s not the first time
“Providing normal evidence to our workers will allow us to identify asymptomatic cases that might not be evaluated in a different way,” he said.
“We can get the virus sooner and quarantine those people, on a full salary, so they can before infecting other people. “
To build and manage the program, the company says it has created a “strong interdisciplinary team” that incorporates researchers, engineers, specialists, operators and monetary analysts.
It will have to be deployed in the country, although the Dunfermline site will be among the first participants.
A number of workers at the company’s Dunfermline site have fallen in recent months, adding up to a 12-known organization late last month, resulting in thorough cleaning of plant spaces and strict welfare controls for staff and visitors.
A specialized laboratory has been set up in Manchester through Amazon for testing, which will be presented voluntarily at the sites.
The GMB union has already warned Amazon of its peak grocery shopping season.
Amanda Gearing, senior organizer of GMB, said: “If Amazon doesn’t need to be guilty of spreading this fatal virus, you’ll have to avoid flooding employee comforts to maximize profits, enforce social esttachment regulations, and send anyone home, who may be inflamed until after 14 days or their result is negative.
