LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Los Angeles County supervisor Hilda Solís and the Mexican consulate in Los Angeles opened a COVID-19 check at the MacArthur Park domain on Wednesday.
The loose verification site, internal to the Mexican consulate, occurs when knowledge continues to show that communities of color have been disproportionately affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
“It is imperative to expand to COVID-19 controls to stop the spread of this highly contagious virus,” Solís said. “Many Latino immigrants and communities of color are workers and a must-have staff that is limited to physical care, so I’m committed to opening up more COVID-19 verification sites.”
According to Solís, the neighboring neighborhoods of Westlake and Pico-Union were affected by COVID-19.
The new check site will provide more than 1,500 checks administered per week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday.
“The pandemic is not over and the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles remains committed to the safety of his team and the network he serves,” said Marcela Celorio, Consul General of the Consulate of Mexico in Los Angeles. “In addition, we recognize that this disease makes no difference and can be infected.”
Tests will be conducted without an appointment and staff will assist local citizens who speak Spanish, Zapotec, Quich or other Mayan languages.
“This will be particularly our outreach effort to inspire our constituents in Westlake and Pico-Union, two high-risk spaces for COVID-19 that have the highest number of positive cases and deaths in my district, to get tested,” said Councillor Gil Said Cedillo.
“Surely it is for other people to know the risks and situations in which we live so that they can do what is Array”
