Covid-19: Centre urges States to maintain stockpiles of oxygen cylinders and survival equipment

India has stepped up surveillance for Covid-19, while China and some other countries are seeing an increase in coronavirus infections. Covid-19 review meetings were also held through Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, after which state governments issued Covid-19 notices to restrict cases.

The central government on Saturday suggested to states or union territories the availability of liquid medical oxygen, a sufficient stock of cylinders and functional survival devices, such as ventilators in hospitals, to meet any challenges, according to PTI reports.

The Ministry of Health has asked them to have voltage-modulated adsorption (PSA) oxygen production plants fully functional and to conduct normal training simulations to verify them.

Manohar Agnani, undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, in a letter addressed to all states and UT, said that the operation and maintenance of this medical infrastructure is of paramount importance to address any eventuality, even though the number of instances in the country is low lately, reported PTI.

He said medical oxygen is a critical and critical resource in all clinical settings, especially in pandemic control, and that a reliable source of oxygen is imperative for saving lives, patient care and COVID-19 control.

Earlier on Friday, Mandaviya urged states to the Covid-19 surveillance system, accentuate testing and ensure the preparation of hospital infrastructure on Friday.

He called on state fitness ministers to monitor and review the readiness of all infrastructure and ensure there is a good enough inventory of essential medicines.

The Minister also wants to jointly revitalize the formula and eliminate any sense of complacency and fatigue.

States/UTs were asked to increase the rate from the existing rate of 79 tests consistent with millions as of Dec. 22. They were also asked to increase the consistent percentage of RT-PCR in Array
