While the number of cases shown of COVID-19 continues to increase throughout British Columbia, cases remain low within the province, despite a momentary outbreak at the Okanagan Correctional Center.
Only one new case of the virus was reported on Friday in the indoor fitness region, while the rest of the province recorded 83 new cases. Most of last week’s new cases came from the coastal fitness regions of Fraser and Vancouver.
There are now 629 active cases of the virus in British Columbia, but thirteen of them are indoors. Two of the province’s 12 hospitalizations related to the virus have occurred in the interior lately.
Kelowna saw a build-up in cases similar to several exposure occasions over the Canada Day long weekend last month. As of Friday, there were 165 cases of Viruses similar to Kelowna since June 26 among citizens of the Home Health Region. Eight of these cases remain active.
A momentary outbreak of COVID-19 was reported Thursday at the Okanagan Correctional Center after 3 staff members tested positive for the virus. On Friday afternoon, there were no other cases similar to the correctional facility.
Infections are thought to be similar to a two-day off-site session, and there has been no evidence of community transmission of cases.
