COVID-19: Bahrain helps keep mosques closed

Cairo: Bahrain said mosques will remain closed for the congregation’s prayers until a “required decrease” is achieved in COVID-19 cases.

The Gulf country has postponed the reopening of mosques, originally scheduled for June 5, due to the accumulation of virus cases.

Bahrain’s Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs has said that while the physical fitness scenario in the kingdom has improved, it has not yet reached the expected point, Akhbar Al Khaleej reported on Thursday.

“Therefore, the council, respecting the recommendations and reviews of specialized medical agencies, announces the continuous suspension of prayers in mosques and the cessation of worship of organizations until the required decrease in disease rates spread,” he said in a statement.

The council also suggested to the public that they comply with Eid Al Adha’s fitness commands to help prevent the spread of the disease.

“The council asks everyone to assume a devout and patriotic duty following the orders of the specialists. and to repeat what happened at Eid Al Fitr [in May] when meetings and other behaviors led to a strong build-up in the number of infections and deaths, he added.

Bahrain has reported a total of 40,311 coronavirus infections and 145 deaths.
