COVID-19 affects significant fitness in Africa: WHO

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit Africa’s major fitness services hard, leading to fears that some of the continent’s major fitness services are getting worse.

The Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, said on its website.

According to the Unaswing Health Agency, WHO’s initial research on five key signs of an essential physical condition includes outpatient consultation, hospital admission and professional birth care.

Other indications include the remedy of malaria cases and the supply of the combined pentavalent vaccine in 14 countries, which are experiencing a sharp decline.

The global framework noted that “there is a sharp drop between January and September 2020 compared to the last two years.

“The differences were greater in May, June, and July, when many countries implemented and imposed movement restrictions and other social and public fitness measures to stop COVID-19.

“During those 3 months, more than 50% fell in the 14 countries in the five monitored spaces compared to the same time in 2019. “

WHO cited Dr Matshidiso Moeti, its Regional Director for Africa, saying that “the COVID-19 pandemic has had hidden and harmful side effects for fitness in Africa.

“Health resources have largely focused on COVID-19, while concern and restrictions on people’s lives, vulnerable populations face a growing threat of falling through cracks.

“We want our fitness formulas to better cope with long-term impacts. A strong fitness formula is the foundation for emergency preparedness and response. As countries lift restrictions on COVID-19, we will have to not leave the door open to the resurgence of the pandemic.

“A new wave of COVID-19 infections can further affect important fitness services, which are only now recovering from the initial impact. “

He noted that even before the COVID-19 pandemic, maternal mortality in sub-Saharan Africa was unacceptable and accounted for about two-thirds of international maternal deaths in 2017.

He noted that “preliminary knowledge implies that COVID-19 is likely to exacerbate women’s fitness disorders and new research shows that professional attendance at delivery in all 14 countries has declined.

“In Nigeria, 362,700 pregnant women received no prenatal care between March and August 2020. More than 97,000 women gave birth to outdoor fitness services and more than 193,000 lost postnatal care within two days of delivery.

“There were 310 maternal deaths in Nigerian fitness services in August 2020, double the number in August 2019. “

The press release said that another 1. 37 million young people in the African region had won the Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine, which protects against tuberculosis (TB).

He said another 1. 32 million children under one year of age lost their first dose of the measles vaccine between January and August 2020, at the same time in 2019.

He added that “vaccination campaigns against measles, yellow fever, polio and disease have been postponed in at least 15 African countries this year.

“The arrival of new vaccines has stopped and countries have reported depletion of vaccine stocks. “

However, he quoted Moeti as saying: “Now that countries are reducing restrictions, it is imperative that they put vaccine campaigns into effect to catch up quickly.

“The longer many young people remain unprotected from measles and other diseases in the training years, the more likely we are to see deadly outbreaks and more deaths than COVID-19. “

In the meantime, WHO has issued rules on how to provide immunization services, adding how to conduct a comprehensive threat assessment before implementing mass life-saving vaccination, with particular attention to appropriate protective measures to prevent you from transmission of COVID-19.
