A flight carrying two million doses of Indian coronavirus vaccines landed in Brazil on Saturday, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar.
“Trust the pharmacy of the world. Vaccines made in India are coming to Brazil,” Jaishankar tweeted.
India sent two million doses of Covishield vaccines to Brazil on Friday. Covishield evolved through AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford and is manufactured through the Serum Institute of India.
Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy in New Delhi, has made arrangements with India and the SII for the shipment of COVID-19 vaccines, following a letter from President Jair Bolsonaro to Prime Minister Narendra Modi dated January 8.
The ambassador of Brazil, André Aranha Correa do Lago, thanked the SII for the vaccines and the “professionalism demonstrated” in transportation.
“Thank you to the Serum Institute of India for the professionalism you have shown in sending this batch of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines to Brazil and immense recognition and thank you to the Government of India for your support,” said Andre Aranha Correa do Lago.
In recent days, India has locally manufactured COVID-19 vaccines for neighboring countries, in addition to Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh.
On Friday, shipments of doses of the Covishield vaccine were transported via Indian special aircraft to Seychelles, Mauritius and Myanmar.
Contracts are also underway for Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Morocco, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
