The return to school came after the Ministry of Education announced that the new 2020/2021 school year is scheduled to begin on October 4 and approximately 106,400 schoolchildren are expected to enroll in 856 public schools.
Students will lead the first semester of the new school year online, in accordance with the resolution of the Minister of Education, Dr. Saud Al Harbi. In a press release, Al Harbi said that all public schools, centers, adult education centers and staff schools that follow the ministry’s curriculum will offer online courses.
It added that the resolution would be revised in November and would take into account the situation in the country.
Last week, the Kuwaiti government stopped renewing the authorizations of expatriate teachers stranded abroad, local media reported.
When it came to personal schools, many teachers were fired in June because schools could not pay salaries.
All schools are expected to resume on October 4, after a seven-month break that began on March 12. Although schools were closed, personal schools did the most online courses during the pandemic and finished the school year as planned.
As for public schools last month, Al Harbi announced that the 2019/2020 school year for public schools ended after schools had been suspended since March 12. The government extended the suspension until August 4, but announced in advance that the school year ended.
