Cairo: Some 35,000 Indians are expected to leave Kuwait and return home on repatriation flights in two weeks, according to a Kuwaiti newspaper.
Kuwait’s civil aviation government approved an Indian timetable to repatriate the 35,000 passengers on a total of 160 flights, a well-informed al Qabas newspaper said. Approximately 2,500 passengers will be transported daily.
They will return home from August 18-31, on 12 to 14 daily flights, the source added. Indian and Kuwaiti airlines will also bring passengers on flights.
The Indians make up approximately one million of Kuwait’s 4. 7 million inhabitants.
Earlier this month, Kuwait announced the suspension of flights from 31 “high-risk” countries from Kuwait’s fitness government due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
These come with India, Pakistan, Egypt, the Philippines and Sri Lanka, all of which have giant communities in Kuwait.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, has asked flights to repatrient those wishing to leave Kuwait, Al Qabas reported, bringing up the same source.
The Kuwaiti government is expected to soon allow 14 departure flights for Sri Lankans, he said.
Flights, which can be operated on for two weeks, are expected to begin from Saturday, the source said.
The ban on flights to Kuwait from 31 countries was announced on 1 August, hours after Kuwait International Airport was partially reopened for advertising flights after a break of about five months.
