Madison County is classified as a low point of the COVID-19 community.
WOOD RIVER: Madison County has returned to a low point of the COVID-19 network, according to information from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
The county’s COVID point had been average during the spring high before peaking this summer.
The IDPH suggests that citizens keep up with COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters and, if possible, improve ventilation in indoor spaces.

On Monday, IDPH reported that Madison County has recorded 80,565 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, as well as 813 COVID-related deaths. Statewide, IDPH has reported 3,678,190 cases, totaling 34,687 deaths, since the beginning of the pandemic.
As of Aug. 25, another 1310 people were in Illinois hospitals with COVID-19. Of these, 158 were patients in intensive care sets and 59 were on ventilators.
On Sunday, 2331 CASES of COVID were reported statewide, with a seven-day average of 3609 cases. These figures are higher than the 1114 cases and seven-day average of 1078 cases reported on March 23, but still well below the 13,706. cases and the seven-day average of 24,083 cases reported on January 25.
According to IPDH, the omicron BA. 5 variant lately accounts for 77% of COVID-19 cases in Illinois.
Madison County has recently vaccinated all Americans 6 months of age and older. Reminders and additional doses can only be obtained by appointment.
