Coronavirus vaccine update: India will begin phase 3 trial of COVID-19 vaccine or tomorrow, says NITI Aayog member

Updating the coronavirus vaccine: In a major advance, India is about to begin phase 3 trials for a prospective evolved COVID-19 vaccine, VK Paul, a member of NITI Aayog, said Tuesday. However, Paul did not disclose the call and the main points of the possible COVID19 candidate vaccine.

“With regard to coronavirus vaccines, Prime Minister Narendra Modi trusted the country on Independence Day. He said 3 vaccines are being developed in India and are at other stages. One of them will be tested in Phase 3 or tomorrow,” Paul said in a press briefingArray The other two experimental vaccines are in Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials.

India has two indigenous vaccines being tested in humans. These are COVXIN and ZyCoV-D. Covaxin is developed through Bharat Biotech, the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology in Pune. COVAXIN has already completed 1 human trial in just one month. He had begun his two human tests. Human trials of COVAXIN are being conducted at 12 sites in India.

Zydus Cadila develops the other prospective COVID vaccine, ZyCoV-D. Meanwhile, the Serum Institute in Pune is also initiating phase 3 human trials of the coronavirus candidate Oxford-AstraZeneca.

Worldwide, eight vaccine applicants have effectively entered three trials. These are Oxford-Astra Zeneca, Moderna, Pfizer-BioNtech, Beijing-Sinopharm Institute of Biological Products, Wuhan-Sinopharm Biological Products Institute, Sinovac, Cansino and Sputnik-V of Russia. Meanwhile, Sputnik-V won a conditional registration and the Chinese Cansino won a patent and approval for military use.
