Coronavirus vaccine: China approves candidate for emergency use

A COVID-19 vaccine candidate has been approved for emergency use in China as part of a program to vaccinate high-risk groups, such as medical workers.

State media reported in June that staff of state-traveling enterprises had been allowed to take one of two vaccines developed through China’s National Biotec Group, while the Chinese army had approved the use of some other candidate vaccine through CanSino Biologics.

There are seven COVID-19 vaccines in final trial stages around the world, including four in China, but none have reached final checks of safety and effectiveness.
