Confirmed cases of coronavirus in India officially surpassed the 20 lakh mark on 7 August, just 21 days after crossing the 10 lakh mark, according to the knowledge of the Ministry of Health and Family of the Union. India had officially crossed the 10 lakh mark on 17 July.
According to the ministry’s latest update at 8:00 a.m. on August 7, the total number of known instances of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, reached 20,27,074. The number of deaths in the country as a result of the pandemic has reached 41,585 people.
While 13,78,105 patients recovered, 6,07,384 were still classified as “active”. India notified its first case of COVID-19 on 30 January.

India is the third country to register 20 or more COVID-19 instances, according to the Reuters tracker.

Maharashtra, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh have reported the number of cases to date.
The recovery rate is gradual and now hovers around 67%.
While press reports had in the past indicated that India had passed the 20 lakh mark on the night of 6 August, the figure had not been corroborated by the knowledge of the Ministry of Health of the Union.
Worldwide, there have been approximately 1.9 million cases shown of COVID-19. Of these, at least 7 lakh of others have died so far. The other affected countries are the United States, Brazil, India, Russia and South Africa.
India has been a national blockade since 25 March. This blocking phase, called “Unlock 3.0”, will remain in effect until August 31.
