Coronavirus update in India: COVID-19 reaches 15 lakh mark, death toll in 34193

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in India officially passed the 15 lakh mark on 29 July, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family. According to the most recent and updated knowledge on the ministry’s online page at 8:00 a.m. on July 29, the total number of known cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, reached 15,31,669. The number of deaths in the country as a result of the pandemic has reached 34,193 people.

While 9,88,029 patients recovered, 5,09,447 were still classified as “active”. India notified its first case of COVID-19 on 30 January.

India is the third country to register 15 or more COVID-19 instances, according to the Reuters tracker.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have reported the number of cases to date.

The recovery rate is gradual and now hovers around 64%.

While press reports had in the past indicated that India had crossed the 15 lakh mark on the night of 28 July, the figure had not been corroborated by the knowledge of the Ministry of Health of the Union.

Worldwide, there have been more than 1.6 million cases shown of COVID-19. Of these, at least 6.5 lakh of others have died so far. The other affected countries are the United States, Brazil, India, Russia and South Africa.

India has been under national blockade since March 25. This blocking phase, called “Unlock 2.0”, will remain in effect until July 31. The Center is expected to consider the rules for “Unlock 3.0” in the near future.
