Coronavirus UK: Manchester police make 263 quarantine visits

More than 260 people in Greater Manchester have been visited by police after not responding to quarantine requests from border officials.

The Border Force may contact foreign travellers to check if they comply with the 14-day self-de-idation rules, if necessary, upon return to the UK.

Details are sent to the police if there is no reaction after several verification attempts.

Since 22 July, the Greater Manchester Police have reported receiving 263 such requests from border forces and, in two cases, have issued notifications of consistent sanctions for repeated violations of self-isolation rules.

Superintendent Andrew Sidebotham said: “It is vital that others isolate themselves for the full 14 days when they return to the UK, as Covid-19 symptoms can take so long to develop.

Hospital admissions will be used as an indicator of the need for stricter restrictions on Covid-19 in England’s hot spots, not the number of new cases, said a lead curator.

The government is looking at how infections are spreading or shrinking in each of England’s local governments to make decisions about “local blockade” rules.

But Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the backbenchers committee of 1922, said it was a volatile measure because it greatly influenced the amount of evidence in this area.

As testing increases, the number of instances detected on the network also increases, according to experts, which, on the surface, gives the impression that Covid-19 is spreading faster.

And decy spaces are flooded with resources to control more people, on the streets, in city centres and even door-to-door.
